Full detailed step-by-step blog post (Long version)
Introduction — why this matters
A digital signature certificate (DSC) is required for many government filings, e-tendering, and secure digital transactions. XtraTrust (XtraTrust Certifying Authority) uses an eKYC + payment flow, followed by a download key / challenge code mechanism to securely issue the DSC. If steps are missed or fields incorrectly set, downloads fail or tokens don’t initialize. This guide walks you through the full process exactly as you should perform it.
Prerequisites — what you need before starting
- A device (PC recommended) with a modern browser.
- Your registered mobile number (linked to DSC application) or PAN.
- eKYC PIN (provided during application / OTP flow).
- A working payment method (UPI app, credit/debit card, or netbanking).
- If using a hardware token (USB), make sure it’s connected and recognized by your computer before final download.
- Patience to follow the steps in order — refreshing pages when instructed.
Step 1 — Open the eKYC Login Page
- Open the XtraTrust eKYC login page. (If you’re watching a video, the link will be in the description.)
- This should open a secure XtraTrust page where you begin authentication.
Step 2 — Enter Username and eKYC PIN
- In the login form, enter your Username. This can be your Mobile Number or PAN Number (whichever was used at registration).
- Enter the eKYC PIN in the PIN field.
- Click Login.
Step 3 — OTP Verification
- Immediately after clicking Login, XtraTrust will send an OTP to your registered mobile number.
- Enter the OTP exactly as received.
- Click Verify.
- On successful verification, you’ll be logged in and the eKYC dashboard will appear.
Step 4 — Complete eSign
- On your dashboard, locate the Complete eSign (or similar) option and click it.
- Follow the prompts to complete the eSign process — this typically confirms identity and locks in the application.
- Once eSign completes, the system will move you to the payment stage automatically (or show the payment option).
Step 5 — Click “Pay Now”
- After eSign, click Pay Now (or the equivalent payment button shown).
- The payment gateway will open with available options.
Step 6 — Choose and complete a payment method
You’ll usually see multiple choices:
- UPI — scan or use QR / UPI ID and approve payment via your UPI app.
- Credit / Debit Card — enter card details, OTP from your bank if required.
- Internet Banking (Netbanking) — choose your bank and complete payment through the bank’s gateway.
Tips:
- Use a method you use frequently for faster OTP approvals.
- If payment fails, retry once and consider switching methods. Don’t refresh mid-transaction unless prompted.
Step 7 — Return to the eKYC tab & set Challenge Code / Download Key
- After successful payment, switch back to the original eKYC tab (the login/dashboard tab) — do not close it during payment if possible.
- Look for the option to Set Challenge Code or Set Download Key. This may appear immediately or after a short refresh.
- If you do not see the option, refresh the page once and check again.
- Enter a strong but memorable Challenge Code / Download Key — this will be required when you download and install the DSC.
- Make sure to note it down securely (do not share).
- Save / Confirm the Challenge Code.
Step 8 — Download your DSC
- Once the Challenge Code is set and the system shows the certificate as Ready to Download, click the Download DSC button or follow the download flow.
- When prompted, provide the Challenge Code / Download Key you set earlier.
- If you are using a USB token, make sure it is connected and recognized — the DSC will typically be written into the token.
- Wait for the confirmation message that the certificate was successfully downloaded or installed.
Post-download checks
- Verify that the certificate shows in your token management tool or browser certificate store (depending on delivery method).
- Note certificate validity dates and keep renewal reminders.
- Keep payment receipts and confirmation emails for future reference.
Troubleshooting & common issues
I didn’t get an OTP
- Ensure the mobile number is active and has network coverage.
- Wait 2–3 minutes and request a resend. If still no OTP, contact XtraTrust support.
Payment failed or timed out
- Check internet connectivity and try a different payment method.
- Check with your bank for any OTP or transaction issues.
- If money is debited and DSC not issued, keep the receipt and contact XtraTrust / vendor support for reconciliation.
Challenge Code option not visible
- Refresh the dashboard tab once. If still not visible, log out and log in again.
- If problem persists, open a support ticket with XtraTrust and provide payment ID and application details.
Token not recognized during download
- Try a different USB port, or test token on another PC.
- Ensure token drivers are installed (vendor-specific).
- Reboot and retry.
Security & best practices (EEAT considerations)
- Expert tip: Treat the Challenge Code like a password. Use a mix of letters and numbers; avoid extremely obvious codes. Do not share it.
- Always verify you are on XtraTrust’s official domain (check the browser address bar and SSL padlock).
- Keep payment confirmations and emails in your records for dispute resolution.
- If you’re handling DSCs for clients, use secure channels for any credential exchange and follow organizational compliance rules.
FAQ (short)
Q: Can I use any mobile number as username?
A: Use the mobile number or PAN that you registered with XtraTrust for your DSC application.
Q: What if payment is successful but DSC isn’t ready?
A: Refresh the eKYC dashboard tab. If still not ready, wait few minutes and check emails (payment & confirmation). Contact support if delay exceeds 30–60 minutes.
Q: Can I change the Challenge Code later?
A: Typically no — set it carefully. If a change is allowed, the portal will show the option; otherwise contact support.
